Kia Drummondville was fined $18,000

THEY COMMUNICATE. The Office of Consumer Protection announces that Kia Drummondville, which also did business under the name Occasion Beaucage Drummondville, pleaded guilty, on September 20, 2022, to charges brought under the Consumer Protection Act. He paid a total fine of 18,000 $.

The office accused him of claiming, when selling the car, a higher price than the price advertised on his website. Additional fees, generally $499, were added to the price under various headings such as “Windshield Protection”, “Administrative Fees” or even “Inspection Fees”. The offenses were committed between March and May 2021.

Kia Drummondville is located at 1405, boulevard René-Lévesque, in Drummondville.

The price of a product or service is part of the information that is important to the consumer. Therefore, in Quebec, it is prohibited for any trader, manufacturer or advertiser to charge a higher price than the advertised one. Additionally, businesses are required to advertise an “inclusive” price, which includes all fees except tax.

Customers who have paid fees that have been added to the price advertised by the merchant can contact the Office to find out about possible appeals. (LT)
