RHOON – For the second time, Erwin van Bussel will travel 7,000 kilometers through Scandinavia in his Subaru in ten days. In 2020 he traveled with his brother and in January 2024 he will ride the tour with Tim Koornhof. He does it not only because he is a big fan of Subaru and loves these kinds of challenges, but also to collect as much money as possible for the Ambulancewens foundation.

The men will face the bare under the name ‘Wilderness Noordkaap 2024’. They still have six months to complete the Subaru, collect all the tools and equipment and find many sponsors and sponsors. “Three years ago we raised more than 15,000 euros for the Ferenc foundation,” says Erwin. “So that’s our target level.”

Erwin and Tim enjoy off-road driving and are both members of the Subaru club. They also know each other from that. “Subaru are very good cars. They have four-wheel drive and are therefore very suitable for off-roading,” says Erwin. “I really enjoy driving that car in the mud and going up and down the hills. But in the snow with temperatures that can go down to -47, it’s definitely a bigger challenge. There’s a bit of technology involved and the nice thing is that you have the feeling that you can really control the car. and strength and working on this preparation gives me more strength.”

Erwin hasn’t played much yet, but he’s definitely enthusiastic. He is already busy convincing. “We are looking for donors who want to donate 1,000 euros and in return a sticker with the logo/name of the company will be placed on our car. We drive with those stickers for at least three months. Of course we will also mention the sponsors on the website. But people who want to contribute, but cannot save 1000 euros, can certainly participate. Every euro is welcome.

All donations go directly to charity. Men pay for the trip itself and all related expenses themselves. “We chose the Ambulancewens foundation because we think it’s a good cause,” Erwin continues. “In addition, it is based in the Netherlands, but it is located in Rhoon. I have often seen applications implemented through Rijkswaterstaat (my employer) and I have always been impressed. Through Kees Veldboer Jr. – he immediately succeeded his father who died unexpectedly – I was given a tour of company and heard a lot of stories about the foundation. The foundation works with at least 270 volunteers. And they make six wishes a day. ”

The foundation fulfills the wishes of immobile (people who depend on ambulance transport) terminally ill patients free of charge using specially designed ambulances.

Erwin talks about the wishes of people who would like to visit someone again, but can no longer arrange this themselves. Almost the last time to visit Blijdorp Zoo and see the beach one more time. He is very happy to earn as much money as possible on this basis, and as a reward he can drive 7,000 km through heavy snow.

Anyone interested in supporting Erwin and Tim can visit the Outback Wilderness Facebook page. On this page they track contributions and progress on Subaru. And of course the trip itself. You can also call 06 – 11602419.
