The Lincoln Corsair already looks old

For the first time in its history, Lincoln will build a model in China. The brand new Corsair owes it. It does not make sense that this type is also made in China.

The Corsair is the successor to the MKC and now makes the model the best-selling Lincoln in Asia. Because the MKC is now imported, the model struggles with higher taxes. While the construction takes place domestically, the luxury brand Ford avoids the tax law and Lincoln can strengthen its position in the Chinese market.

Peak sales

For Lincoln, the MKC is not only an important model in China, but also in the domestic market. There, the ‘compact’ SUV by American standards takes the second place in the sales ranking of Lincoln.

Lincoln’s face

So Corsair is responsible for continuing sales success. To achieve this, Lincoln has given the car a more modern design with its classic Lincoln face. The basis of the Corsair is laid by the next generation Ford Kuga, which was recently presented by the parent brand. That means a front-wheel drive platform with optional four-wheel drive, a choice of 2.0 and 2.3 liter four-cylinder petrol engines with 250 and 280 hp respectively and five seats. Overall, the newcomer is wider and taller than the predecessor.

Although the car is new, the name is not. Lincoln has not used the Corsair name before, but within the Ford group there are different models with similar characteristics. The name was used as the model name for Ford’s Edsel sub-brand in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Ford’s English division was used and from the 1980s to the early 1990s, the Corsair appeared on the Australian price list. Ford returned the rights to the name in 2017.
