(Video) A closer look at the new Caterham V Project

First, and most obviously, the Caterham Seven’s open-cockpit, open-wheel drive philosophy is gone, in favor of a streamlined shape that reaps significant aerodynamic benefits. It’s still very Caterham when it comes to the thought process behind the design, everything has found its place in the car. Anything extra is removed to reduce weight.

Then there’s the interior, which is possibly the biggest departure from what we’re used to from Caterham. There are digital instrument displays, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and even air conditioning. It’s a very modern step up from the Caterham interior we’re used to in the Saba.

The elephant in the room, of course, is that the Project V is an electric car. It had to happen, and I’m glad it did. It shows Caterham’s commitment to future-proofing, ensuring that this flagship will still have a place when the world stops burning fossil fuels.

Sure it may have run out of engines, but it’s doubtful that this car will be as exciting to drive as the Caterhams that came before it. It’s light, well-built, and still aims to provide impressive storage. We can’t wait to get this out on the road.
