Concept ID.Code shows the future of Volkswagen style | Car news

• Volkswagen’s ID.Code concept was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show.

The Beijing Auto Show is in full swing these days. Often, products designed and built for the Chinese market were delivered there, cars that would never see North America. But there are several interesting new cars on the lot.

The ID.Code concept launched by Volkswagen caught our attention, because it offers a style completely different from what the brand has accustomed us to over the years. Does this bode well for the future of fashion at Volkswagen?

At least this will be the case for all Chinese products that the company plans. The design is refined and very rounded, and does not show any reference to what we have known from this brand for many years. As we look to the future of ultra-electricity, the time to change the image is well chosen.

The model was apparently created for Volkswagen’s Chinese customers. If the answer is positive elsewhere on the planet, make sure the company listens.

Unsurprisingly, this concept is powered by electric motors and a lithium-ion battery. Solar panels integrated into the glass roof are also present to provide energy. The company is also proud to announce a car that offers a level 4 autonomous driving system, thanks to the presence of “the most advanced sensors, lights, cameras and screens of our time. »

Level 4 allows the driver to completely relinquish control of the vehicle to rest by reading a book or doing other related tasks. When the car takes control, the steering wheel goes back and the front seats can rotate 180 degrees. They can also recline to allow people to sleep while traveling. Will we really see it one day?

The model also has futuristic tricks, such as a lighting welcome system that transforms the car into a digital avatar that provides information to the driver and other road users. The bodywork below the light bar is relatively transparent, and as the owner approaches, a visual and audio welcome sequence is played, while the weather forecast for the next two hours is displayed.

It is even explained that in the case of autonomous driving, lighting systems should “interact with other road users. » No details are given on this.

On board, there is no doubt, we are dealing with a concept while the presentation has nothing to do with what we know with production cars. We describe place as the living space that we find at home in our living room. Cocoon is made of environmentally friendly materials. Transparent screens attached to the side windows will display important information to the occupants. We are actually in front of a concept that explores all the possibilities of the future.

Where it is more interesting is when the company mentions that its ID.Code concept is a preview of a new generation of SUVs, meaning that the signature of this model is set to move into production, with the necessary and smooth changes expected with this type of article.

It remains to be seen if this new styling signature will be introduced in China, or in other markets around the world.
