2023 Lordstown Endurance Overview: What We Know So Far

The Lordstown Endurance and the Tesla Cybertruck have a few things in common, but not all are good. Each promises to be more capable and powerful, but both have been plagued by delays. The Endurance was unveiled in June 2020, but has yet to reach customers as the Ohio-based company faces major financial hurdles. When Does Lordstown Resilience Come Out?

Production of the electric sedan was scheduled to begin in January 2021, but the Lordstown Endurance’s release date has been pushed back more than once. The company was aiming for the first products in the second half of 2022, but ongoing financial problems mean that even this later date is now uncertain. Similarly, the Tesla Cybertruck’s release date is now mid-2023. In both cases, we don’t know exactly when these images will come out.

What is the price of the 2023 Endurance?

Pricing for the 2023 Lordstown Endurance was supposed to start at $52,500 MSRP before federal tax credits, but since pickup has been delayed so many times, it’s unclear if this starting price will remain the same.

Rivals will include the Ford F-150 Electric, which has a starting price of $39,974, which easily undercuts the Endurance. The Tesla Cybertruck was meant to start under $40,000 as well, but it’s likely that this will remain the case when it goes on sale in the USA.

Lordstown’s New Endurance Outdoor and Color

The exterior of the Lordstown Endurance has a more aggressive design than other electric trucks, such as the flashier Chevy Silverado 1500 EV. The 2023 Lordstown Endurance has a striking stature and looks quite old in profile. However, the headlights and taillights are a reminder that this is a very modern truck. Square wheel arches and dark side moldings are attractive stylish touches. The wheels are 20 inches in size.

We don’t know what color the Lordstown Endurance will be available in yet, but it has been pictured in conservative colors like silver, white and black so far.

Lordstown Endurance Tests

The dimensions of the Lordstown Endurance are similar to those of the Ford F-150 Electric, although at 230 inches, the 2023 Endurance is 2.7 inches longer than the Radius. It has a width of 86 inches, a height of 75 inches, and a wheelbase of 146 inches.

According to a leaked 2020 presentation with investor materials, the new Lordstown Endurance pickup truck weighs 4,200 pounds. That’s a little lighter than expected, but the truck’s use of aluminum in its construction may contribute to its light weight.

Lordstown Engine Endurance and Performance

The all-electric Lordstown Endurance powertrain is unique – there are four electric hub motors that Lordstown says reduce the number of moving parts and can improve maintenance costs over time. With a motor for each wheel, it’s only fair that this is a unique four-wheel drive image. Together, the system makes 600 hp.

A 0-60 mph time of 5.5 seconds is quick for a workhorse and comparable to most V8-powered full-size trucks. Less important is top speed, but that is limited to just 80 mph. However, the manufacturer’s claimed towing capacity of 7,500 pounds falls short of the 10,000 pounds that the F-150 Electric can manage when properly equipped. Some claims suggest an even lower 6,000-pound towing capacity for the Endurance, so we’ll have to see what the final specs are when the truck arrives.

According to early documents from Lordstown, the maximum payload is 3,000 pounds.

Range, Charge and Battery Life

EPA numbers haven’t been published yet, but the Lordstown Endurance EV is expected to achieve 75 combined MPGE and a range of about 250 miles. Again, Ford leads the way here with an EPA-rated maximum of 320 miles and its long-range battery.

At 220V, the Endurance battery will take about 10 hours to charge. Using a 400V Level 3 fast charger, that time drops to about 45 minutes.

Lordstown Endurance Interiors and Cargo

Like the exterior, the interior of the Lordstown Endurance has a simple design. Three displays under one housing are placed in front of the driver for important information and infotainment. Based on the images we’ve seen, the steering wheel has touch-sensitive controls – but not everything is touch-sensitive. There is a rotary control on the center console to the left of the easily accessible cup holders. It looks like Apple CarPlay will be included in the infotainment system, but we are still not sure about the inclusion of Android Auto.

With its four-door crew body style, there must be enough legroom inside for passengers in the second row. As it is more commercially oriented, the Lordstown Endurance’s seats are expected to be upholstered in hard materials, but perhaps faux leather will be offered for customers who want a touch of luxury.

With 9.6 cubic feet up front, the Lordstown Endurance’s cargo space should make it practical. With a bed measuring 5.5 feet, the Endurance can carry plenty of cargo – nearly 60 cubic feet.
