750 Pediatric General Surgery at GMC Srinagar Annually

SRINAGAR: The Department of Pediatric Surgery of Government Medical College Srinagar has been performing around 750 major operations every year for the past three years, hospital officials said.

The expertise of the department covers many complex procedures, from reconstructive surgery of the reproductive system to Hepatobiliary intervention, breast reconstruction, Colo-ano-rectal surgery, treatment of Spinal Dysraphism, and modern Pediatric Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic procedures. Each surgery is a testament to their unwavering commitment to the welfare of their young patients, an official said.

Word of the department’s unique work has spread far and wide, attracting the attention of pediatricians from across the country. Reconstructive spine surgery, in particular, has gained a lot of acclaim, attracting an audience eager to learn from the best.

With demand for residency programs increasing, the department has decided to make it a regular feature, inviting young surgeons to immerse themselves in the art and science of pediatric surgery. Five pediatric surgeons have already secured their spots for the upcoming programs in June, eager to gain knowledge and expertise from seasoned veterans in the field.

But the department’s commitment to talent development doesn’t stop at observational programs, officials point out. They have also established a prestigious DNB (Diplomat of National Board) program, aimed at creating the next generation of pediatric surgical leaders. Through extensive training and mentorship, they are paving the way for a bright future in Pediatric surgery, ensuring that their legacy of excellence continues for generations to come.
