A bad guy drives an electric Ford Explorer around the world

American Lexie Alford has written a new record to her name. A twenty-five-year-old YouTuber is the first person to drive around the world in an electric car. But as far as we’re concerned, someone else should have done it with the Ford Explorer.

We call Lexie Alford a Youtuber, but she has more followers on Instagram (1.2 million), then on YouTube (500,000) He is the youngest person ever to visit every country in the world. That’s 196. Alford had twenty-one when he checked the last country off his list.

Travel around the world with the Ford Explorer

So Ford thought it a good idea to send him out with the new Explorer, an all-electric SUV based on the Volkswagen MEB. Alford left Nice, crossing twenty-seven countries on his journey around the world, covering more than 20,000 miles.

We’re curious to see how much help Alford received from Ford along the way. Was there a petrol van driving behind it with a phone battery on board? Because Ford himself writes about blackouts in Africa and the lack of charging infrastructure in the Atacama desert.

By the way, Alford did not have a car around the world with one Explorer. There was a different car already in each continent, five in total. Also, the trip was not done in one go, unlike the couple who drove from pole to pole in ten months with one Nissan Ariya.

Wiebe Wakker had chosen

However, our regrets… Because Ford could have invited a better person for this record driven Explorer: Wiebe Wakker. The Dutchman also holds the record, but for the longest journey with an electric car ever: 95,000 km, from the Netherlands, via a detour, to Australia.

And he did it all by himself, in a modified Volkswagen Golf, without the best electric range. Wakker was on the road a little longer than Alford, who finished his career in a few months. He was away for more than a thousand days. So more than three years.

Three versions of Explorer

The Ford Explorer is available as rear-wheel drive with a 52 or 77 kWh battery. The first version has 170 hp, the second 286 hp. It is also available with four-wheel drive, 340 hp and a 79 kWh battery. The model with the longest range reaches 602 km.
