A cockpit designed for exciting use on the track – Bugatti’s Information Room

Powered by the development of an all-new lightweight and high-strength monocoque, every part of Bolide’s.1 the interior is specially designed for Bugatti’s exclusive sports car.

The Bolide’s incredible performance – and therefore its interior packaging requirements – necessitated a stronger and more rigid monocoque than the Chiron’s.2. The new monocoque gave way to a new seating position – which leans back in the car, allowing the driver’s heels to sit slightly elevated and the passenger to float comfortably towards the nose of the Bolide, mirroring similar arrangements. feature in some of the world’s most extreme racing cars. Because of the Bolide’s raw and unchanged nature, no parts or trim levels are shared with the Chiron family; on the contrary, the Bolide’s interior has been expertly designed just for this project, including upgraded racing seats, an advanced steering wheel and an array of tailored settings that include safety, comfort and performance.

Forming a connection to Bolide’s attractive exterior DNA, where at the rear of the large sports car are its instantly recognizable X-shaped taillights that perfectly frame the new central exhaust configuration, the Bolide’s cockpit transforms elegantly around the ‘ The same daring X’. – topic structure. As instantly visible as the exterior taillights, once inside the Bolide, the main focal point is the visible steering wheel which at its core has an ‘X-theme’ design. Basically, the design of the Bolide’s steering wheel is meant to inspire complete confidence as the driver and the car become one – especially when using the extreme forces that the Bugatti’s only track design will allow the driver to experience.

Yet in addition to its well-balanced proportions, the steering wheel also takes on a unique artistic form in its own right, transforming into a creative piece of art when the Bolide is at rest. The steering wheel can be easily opened, taken out of the cockpit, and used creatively to increase the space that the owner of the Bolide sees fit, such as the upper business compartment, used to remind them that another exciting Bugatti car on the track. experience is never far away.

Advanced design software streamlined the development process for Bolide’s ‘X-theme’ steering wheel. Bugatti’s creative team embraced high-tech 3D modeling with polygonal modeling, an advanced technique pioneered by developers from the gaming and effects industry. Such a technique allowed Bugatti experts to accurately simulate the steering wheel and all its advanced components and subsystems. Using this innovative process, the team was able to model each of the different elements and surfaces of the steering wheel – including a multitude of complex structures, interfaces and meeting points – using only polygon meshes. The entire process improved quality and – just as importantly – speeded up the iterations of design improvements needed for the steering wheel as development progressed, allowing the design team to respond in real time to each new feedback based on test sessions on race tracks elsewhere. of the world.

In fact, the design of the steering wheel was also based on important feedback from Bugatti’s test drivers, who noted the need for a solid, compact and ergonomic package with eight well-placed key buttons for ease of operation when driving at impressive speeds on song. and dealing with the g-forces that the Bolide creates.

Designed specifically for track driving, the Bolide must transmit real-time data to the driver in an accurate and easy-to-interpret manner. So the driver has the option of engaging with one of the Bolide’s two display interfaces. The first mode contains complex and sophisticated data that was originally requested by Bugatti’s test drivers – basically the basic values of the motorcycle compound that the pilot needs to monitor when driving high performance on the track. The second method provides a summary of important information for the customer. This mode gives customers the opportunity to experience a sense of familiarity while in command of the Bolide, taking in the massive amount of data, g-force effects and intense emotions that the Bolide experience provides.

The unique beauty of the ‘X-Theme’ that the Bolide steering wheel is built on flows massively around the cockpit, creating an attractive design unity. Bolide’s seats are set in an attractive ‘X-theme’ which is embedded within the multi-seat structure. To enable better comfort features and accessibility when entering the vehicle, the outer pads of the seat back and the headrest open with the door, creating a convenient entry into the cockpit. The ‘X-Theme’ aesthetic continues to create collaborations, in this example featuring a 3D-printed interior frame that connects the head pad to the door structure.

The multi-padded seats are precisely placed directly on the monocoque, ensuring an unmistakable connection is made between the pilots and their Bolide without any compromise of comfort. Such an arrangement helps to reduce weight significantly and makes the Bolide the first Bugatti to have fixed seats, in the process ensuring a comfortable seating position only possible for a high-performance car. Both the steering wheel and the pedals can be adjusted to meet the exact needs of the driver.

Four seat size options – all of which fit the driver seamlessly into the Bolide’s interior – are available, including one seat package that accommodates the customer’s specific and unique body shapes. Various materials can be specified for the seat, including leather, suede, napa and Alcantara, and detailing ranging from dynamic quilting to smooth laser perforations, staying true to the concept of customization at the heart of every Bolide configuration.

Maintaining the customer’s climate while on the track and behind the wheel of the Bolide is a lightweight climate control system, which channels its airflow from a symmetrical quad design system consisting of four pipes with aluminum nozzles – a connection another beauty for Bolide. External DNA.

As Bolide customers near the completion of the customization process for their road racing masterpieces, Bugatti’s expert test drivers, designers and engineers complete the remaining modifications to ensure each Bolide example is unmatched in every respect.

“Bugatti prides itself on striving for perfection at every level within the ongoing development of its performance-defining sports cars. This uncompromising approach has also been applied to our exclusive track car, the Bolide, in which we have created a unique interior and a unique driving experience, which you will leave a lasting impression on every driver.
