With this offensive weapon, the Mitsubishi Colt (2023) returns to the Netherlands.

After almost ten years of absence, the Mitsubishi Colt is back in the Netherlands. But the hatchback is not entirely new. The new Colt (2023) is nothing more or less than Renault Clio. Still, Colt can be a strong contender because of the following.

The entry-level model of the new Mitsubishi Colt is a 1.0L three-cylinder MPI with 67 hp. You won’t get that original drivetrain expected on Renault Clio. This will probably make the new Colt cheaper than the Clio (Mitsubishi will announce the price). Add in Mitsubishi’s long five-year warranty (Renault offers two years) and you have Colt’s offensive weapon: more safety for less money.

A trick

The fact that the new Mitsubishi Colt is based on the recently updated Renault Clio has everything to do with the alliance that both brands are a part of. Mitsubishi it had plans to leave Europe but now it can stay because it can use Renault technology. That’s cheaper than building a B-section car yourself. Mitsubishi used this trick before and Mitsubishi ASX which is true a Renault Captur it is.

Mitsubishi Colt: 3 motors

The new Mitsubishi Colt is available with a non-turbo 1.0 and two other engines that can be found in the Renault Clio:

  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.0L MPI-T (turbo) reached 91 pk
  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.6L Hybride met with 143 pk

Check it three times

The hybrid Mitsubishi Colt has a four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors and is equipped with an automatic transmission as standard. Like the facelifted Clio, the Colt has digital instruments and a large multimedia screen (7- or not necessarily 9.3 inches) in the center of the dashboard as standard.

With a design very similar to Clio. A few existing differences can be found on the front and rear of the Colt. As on the ASX, the reversing camera sits like a pimple on the tailgate, while on the Clio it is well hidden behind the Renault logo.

Mitsubishi Colt: good features

At the back it is clear that Renault mentions the Clio model name on the tailgate and Mitsubishi its brand name. Perhaps because Mitsubishi thinks that the Colt name has been forgotten after almost ten years of absence, but make no mistake: Colt was quite successful in the Netherlands and had a good reputation, especially in the field of reliability.

Colt of the second generation from the 1980s especially often met on the road. Mitsubishi Netherlands sold around 6,400 copies in 1987. That’s almost as much as the Volkswagen Polo sold at that time. Polo later more than make up for that, but that’s beside the point.

The new Mitsubishi Colt will be available at dealerships from autumn 2023.
