Vervaeke will test the Mercedes-Benz GenH2

Five companies will soon participate in the first customer trials to get first-hand experience of the Mercedes-Benz GenH2 with hydrogen propulsion. Vervaeke Transport (on behalf of Ineos) it will be one of the five ships that will test one of the five prototypes from mid-2024 and for one year.

The trial will take place only in Germany. Vervaeke will use a hydrogen truck to pull a bulk PVC silo trailer for its client Ineos Inovyn. This produces PVC in Rheinberg. “For this experiment we are investing in a new bulk trailer with special properties. On the one hand, the end installation of the semi-bulk trailer is driven by a tractor. On the other hand, due to the heavy power required, it was chosen to install a flow unloading compressor of air on the semi-trailer. This allows the tractor to work independently. The hydrogen tractor is currently not able to provide such power. However, Daimler Truck is very interested in the operation of the auxiliary equipment on a semi-trailer, in collaboration with Vervaeke,” says Frédéric Derumeaux, CEO of Vervaeke.

“We are pleased to participate in these commercial trials of fuel cells. Hydrogen is a breakthrough energy source that will revolutionize trucking technology and help us reach a Zero Future. As a consumer and producer of hydrogen, Ineos is in a unique position to support this transition and we are delighted to be working with Vervaeke,” said Wouter Bleukx, Business Director of Hydrogen at Ineos Inovyn.
