Niederaula – On Tuesday (April 9th), around 6:30 pm, a 52-year-old driver from the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district was driving a BMW X1 on the A7 towards Kassel and suddenly noticed a technical fault in the car. The East Hesse Police from Fulda reported this in a press release.

The driver had the sense to park on the hard shoulder shortly before the Ottersbach car park, between the intersection of Niederaula and the Hattenbacher triangle, and abandoned the car, it is said. Immediately after that, flames came out of the engine compartment, which is why the car caught fire.

The BMW was extinguished by the fire department of Niederaula and Kirchheim. No people were injured. At the same time, the traffic passed the accident site in one of three ways. A patrol from the Bad Hersfeld and Petersberg road station was on duty.

The material damage caused is estimated at around 9,000 euros, although the highway maintenance department still has to assess the fire for possible damage to the road surface. (live)
