Moderately driven
Until 2019, the LaCrosse was the largest sedan that Buick delivered in its home country of the United States. Lacrosse is no more, but it is still being happily built in China. Now there is a brand new one!
Lacrosse, isn’t that a sport? Sure, but if you spell it a little differently, it’s also a Buick. The chances that you will meet a LaCrosse in the Netherlands are not very good, although Buick has had a LaCrosse in its lineup for almost 20 years. The first generation appeared in 2004. A 5-meter-long sedan that went through life in Canada as the Allure and which saw the light of day replacing two models – Century and Regal. Although new Regals later appeared based on ‘our Insignia’, Buick stuck with the LaCrosse. followed in 2004 second generation on the extended version of the base of the first Opel Insignia. In 2015, the last generation of LaCrosse appeared on stage. That again about 5 meters long sedan stood on the longest platform variant that you got under the last Insignia. In the United States, the LaCrosse has been discontinued since 2019, but it was allowed in China, until now. There is a new one!
The outgoing Buick LaCrosse: the Insignia’s big brother.
The new Buick LaCrosse was developed by the SAIC-GM joint venture for the Chinese market and therefore will no longer be coming to the US. The new sedan is clearly styled according to Buick’s new design language and that gives the LaCrosse its look, especially in the front. It measures a few millimeters in length after 5 meters and has a wheelbase of 2.91 meters. Interesting is the short and steep butt of the sedan. Now a LaCrosse signature. Buick puts a wall-to-wall display that’s at least 30 inches horizontal on the LaCrosse’s dashboard. Not just a screen, but a real 6K curved display, if we’re to believe the fast-computing Chinese Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip. Will the LaCrosse get larger gasoline engines? No, Buick takes it easy with 180 hp and 230 hp 1.5 and 2.0 turbo engines in the sedan.
Buick LaCrosse.
Incidentally, Buick has also built a line of EVs specifically for the Chinese market, including the all-new. So it’s not the first time Buick has paid more attention to the Chinese market. In China, the brand has a strong preference for … MPVs.
