Cadillac Racing #01 Leads After 4 Hours As Cross-Class Crash Sets Action Express Back

Cadillac Racing #01 assumed the lead of the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the season’s opening race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, after a chaotic four hours that featured a cross-class crash and a lengthy caution period.

The #01 Cadillac DPi-V.R, piloted by Ricky Taylor, emerged as the leader after the race’s fourth hour, having executed a swift, late-race pass of the #5 Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac, driven by Christian Fittipaldi.

The incident that set the stage for the #01’s ascent to first place took place shortly before the halfway mark of the race, when the #90 Spirit of Daytona Cadillac DPi and the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 collided while entering the International Horseshoe.

The resulting damage to the Spirit of Daytona was extensive, requiring the #90 to be towed away from the track and necessitating a lengthy caution period. The #48 managed to limp back to the pits, and the driver, Bryan Sellers, was evaluated and released by medical personnel.

Though the ensuing yellow flag brought a halt to the on-track action, it gave the #01 the opportunity to make a strategic pit stop, allowing it to overtake the leading #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac for the lead.

The #10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R of Jordan Taylor, Ricky’s brother, came in third, followed by the #7 Acura Team Penske Acura DPi in fourth.

With the conclusion of the fourth hour, the #01 Cadillac Racing DPi-V.R of Ricky Taylor sits atop the standings, having capitalized on a cross-class crash that precipitated a lengthy caution period and enabled a strategic pit stop.

The fifth hour of the Rolex 24 at Daytona is set to begin at 10:00 pm EST.
