Cadillac was later rejected in the WEC / FIA WEC opener

The Cadillac V-Series.R driven by Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Sébastien Bourdais was later withdrawn from the FIA WEC season-opening classification in Qatar. There was an area in the transmitter that didn’t take into account the symmetry.

The 2024 FIA WEC season opener took place on March 2 – but now the result had to be revised again. The reason: The Cadillac V-Series.R, which finished in fourth place, was dropped from the rankings. The water dispenser in the American car driven by Earl Bamber, Alex Lynn and Sébastien Bourdais was criticized.

“During the post-race examination, a 3D scan was carried out on car number 2 to compare the body fit to the manufacturer’s official CAD model, which was installed when the car was assembled. The results of the 3D scan and further examination revealed that the rear parts of the spreaders placed on the left and right sides are higher (in the Z axis) and misaligned (in the Y axis) than the standard value from the official CAD organization, including the allowed tolerance,” says a letter from managers.

The night after the race, management received a report that more tests were to be taken on the Cadillac. When this was done, a violation of technical regulations was discovered. Finally, on March 20, the hearing was held through a video conference with team manager Stephen Mitas, who confirmed the technical commissioners’ tests and the analysis of the technical representatives of the FIA and ACO during the hearing.

Mitas also presented a report from the Dallara Group, which states that the two parts were delivered to the Cadillac WEC team without final quality control due to errors. The moderators do not take into account any intentional behavior of the participant or the submitting company. Regardless of this, it was still a violation of the technical regulations, which was penalized with disqualification.

This means that the cars originally placed behind the Cadillac move one space each. Fourth place is now held by the private AF Corse-Ferrari 499P of Robert Kubica, Robert Shwartzman and Yifei Ye. The next round of the WEC season will be on April 21 in Imola.
