Rumors have been circulating that the Kansas City Chiefs have been encouraged to sign free agent defensive tackle Poona Ford. The Chiefs, who are fresh off their Super Bowl victory, are reportedly looking to bolster their defensive line with the addition of the 25-year-old defensive tackle.
Ford, a former University of Texas product, has been in the National Football League for the past two seasons, playing for the Seattle Seahawks. During his stint with the Seahawks, Ford established himself as one of the league’s premier interior pass rushers, accumulating 4.5 sacks, 16 QB hits, and a career-high three forced fumbles in 2020.
The Chiefs’ defensive line was already a strength prior to the Super Bowl victory, with Chris Jones and Frank Clark anchoring the front. Adding Ford to the mix would undoubtedly only further bolster the line’s pass rushing capabilities. His ability to disrupt the pocket and collapse the pocket would be a welcome addition to the Chiefs’ defensive unit.
Kansas City’s defensive line is already solid, but adding Ford would give the team another dynamic pass rusher. His presence would create an even more formidable pass rush, which could potentially help the Chiefs repeat as Super Bowl champions.
It is unclear if the Chiefs are seriously considering signing Ford, but the rumors of their interest in the defensive tackle should be taken seriously. With the addition of Ford to their defensive line, the Chiefs could be well on their way to making a second consecutive run to the Super Bowl.
