Chrysler Halcyon, an electric revival concept

Stellantis works hard to keep all its brands alive. In the Atlantic, it is the case of Chrysler that worries the most, and the Halcyon concept tries to show that the brand is not interested in living with one model.

And at the end of the 300 sedan career, Chrysler only offers the Pacifica minivan in its lineup. It will soon be reinforced, if not replaced, by the brand’s first electric model, a crossover based on the Airflow concept. This is still small for the American brand that has long given its name to one of the “Big Three”. To restore some light, Stellantis seems to consider a second example, which can be heralded by the concept of Halcyon. Electric sedan so the name is taken from the mythological bird Alcyon. A name already used by Subaru for the coupe from 1985 to 1997 (two generations XT and SVX).

A new direction

An electric sedan could arrive at Chrysler as early as 2026 based on the larger STLA platform. But unlike the Airflow that appeared in 2021 which was already seen to be close to production, we remain here open in the field of the concept car.

From a strict design point of view, Chrysler turns the page on twenty years of baroque style to move closer to the 90s with its aerodynamic cars and front cabins. Perhaps even more than the Airflow crossover, the aerodynamics are clearly visible here with the lower details, the extended lines, the front end of the slop, the air flow under the hood leading to the base of the windshield… General shapes that are sure to be found on the model of the series. The reinterpreted logo alone signifies a change in direction.

Stellantis technological demonstration

But this concept does not exist only to show its style. Stellantis has chosen the Chrysler brand to develop its future technical components STLA Brain (centered electronic architecture), STLA Smartcockpit (Human/Machine Interface), STLA AutoDrive (semi-autonomous driving).

Everything is emphasized by various features: the kinematics of the opening of the two doors, the steering wheel, the pedals and the central screen of 15.6-inch for the 4th level of autonomous driving, the transparent blade of the screen in front, the high ceiling and the occultation of the electro- chromatic in which information can be estimated, in this case the spatial map, the recognition of the driver’s face and the personal welcome and the implementation of its settings, etc.

Considering the music industry also well established in Detroit (Motown, etc.), some pieces are made from recycled CDs. As for the retractable rear seats, they establish a link with the performance of the brand’s minivans since 1983.

In terms of technical specifications, we have to make do with what we already know about the large STLA platform. The Chrysler Halcyon concept adds wireless charging while driving (Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer – DWPT) with 800-volt Lithium-Sulfur Lyten batteries.
