Chrysler Halcyon Concept: Futuristic EV sports car

Chrysler Halcyon Concept: Futuristic EV sports car

At Chrysler, too, signs point to electric. The first electric car is scheduled to hit the market as early as 2025, and the full electric portfolio is expected to be released in 2028. As a preview of the technology that will be launched in future electric cars under the Chrysler label, the Stellantis subsidiary has now presented a concept car of Chrysler Halcyon.

Basically, Halcyon is about battery and charging technology as well as autonomous driving functions. The sports car look is just for fun packaging. The Chrysler Halcyon is based on the STLA Large platform, but STLA Brain, STLA Smart Cockpit and STLA Auto Drive features are also integrated.

Butterfly doors and extreme aerodynamics

The Halcyon’s shape is defined by a steeply sloping nose and a generously ventilated front. The front edge of the body is marked with a line of rotating LED light. Set far forward and low, the windshield stretches as a continuous glass surface in a gentle curve to the rear. This in turn takes the front lines, but is emphasized by a red LED light bar. Access to the interior is provided by reverse-hinged doors that do not require a center column. In addition, door elements that open up are inserted into the roof area. It couldn’t be more restrictive.

Accents on the flanks include large air vents behind the front wheels, a raised character line in the door area and 22-inch turbine-shaped alloy wheels with 255/35 tyres. Rear cameras replace standard exterior mirrors. A removable rear diffuser, a flexible rear spoiler and an adjustable air suspension chassis further improve aerodynamics.

The interior, which uses 95 percent of sustainable materials such as PET bottles or recycled wood, welcomes its four passengers in free-view individual seats. The two rear seats can be lowered into the floor to increase cargo space.

Refined cockpit

Chrysler relies on digital detox in the cockpit – no visible controls or displays. In autonomous mode – Chrysler promises Level 4 driving functions – the steering wheel, which is positioned up and down, disappears into the dashboard and the pedals sink into the floor of the car. A transparent panel extends to the dashboard where all information can be displayed. Information can also be displayed on the large windshield. The 15.6-inch touchscreen on the center console can be turned to portrait or landscape format or even reduced completely. Full control is then done via voice command and AI support. Software updates arrive at Chrysler via OTA, and a service connection at a workshop or dealer is also run over the air. To create a comfortable feeling on board, almost all settings can be saved in a personal profile, which Halcyon makes available to the respective passenger – who is of course automatically identified.

It charges while you drive

The massive STLA platform built is based on 800-volt lithium-sulfur battery technology from Lyten, which completely releases nickel, cobalt and manganese. No further data was provided. Halcyon is based on unconventional payment technology. The inductive charging system, which also absorbs energy via charging modules on the road while driving, ensures a near-unlimited range. Of course, this only works on properly designed asphalt surfaces. But we are talking about the concept of the future.

Of course – that is one of the advantages of the car.No – electric cars should only be environmentally friendly.

With the Halcyon concept car, Chrysler offers a glimpse into the brand’s upcoming electric vehicle technology. Based on the large STLA platform from Stellantis, Halcyon offers, among other things, autonomous driving functions and inductive payments while driving. The sports packaging and butterfly doors look good, but it is unlikely to lead to a production model.
