Chrysler’s 10 best modern concepts

9. 2001 Chrysler CCV

Chrysler created the polar opposite of many of its earlier and more interesting concepts with the inspired CCV. My favorite of all the great concept car companies, CCV originally stood for China Concept Vehicle in response to a mid-1990s invitation from the Chinese Government to create a simple and basic vehicle suitable for the road and its local conditions. Using ultra-lightweight plastics (made from recycled plastic bottles) and a tiny 750cc four-stroke motorcycle engine, when the CCV was presented to the Chinese, their tastes had already been spoiled by recent imports of the German luxury saloon. , such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Audi 100; these being everything that the conditions and needs of the Chinese did not exactly accommodate.

So the meaning of CCV was changed to Composite Concept Vehicle, with a small number of cars built for evaluation in developed countries. Taking clear inspiration from the Citroen 2CV that the French car designer grew up with, the innovative CCV used just four plastic pieces that were joined together to keep the build and purchase price as low as possible for the right markets. Unfortunately, the CCV didn’t make the regular production that this clever concept deserves. If it did though, I for one would be happy to have one parked in my driveway.
