Concept Genesis GV60 Magma: The luxurious Ioniq 5 N

Stadium

Genesis is the luxury brand of the Hyundai/Kia group. Based in the US, the Genesis was supposed to arrive in Europe from 2019 but the lack of enough engines in a rapidly changing market has limited its presence to only a few countries (Germany, Switzerland, UK).
Genesis, which presented the G80 Magma Special concept last year at the New York Auto Show (produced in a limited series for the Middle East), has decided to build on that by creating a new sports badge called Magma, a rival to AMG, BMW. M and others, and by presenting the new SUV Coupé concept, the GV60.

Chassis and dimensions

The GV60 Magma is a concept but it is meant to be produced very quickly and released worldwide as it is an electric car. This sports version of the GV60 is lowered and sits on 21-inch rims.

Genesis shows that the car has an 84 kWh battery and two electric motors developing 650 hp from the Ioniq 5 N. However, the company notes that this GV60 Magma “will provide a comfortable and reassuring driving experience”, which indicates that it will. not having the soil of Hyundai. More Alpina than BMW M, this Magma Performance?

Style

Orange is the correct color of the Magma layer. The rear spoiler might make some Honda guys cringe, the 21 inch rims are supposed to channel air to the brakes but the design gives the impression of being under 21 inch size, which is not pleasing to the eye and gives a slightly old, or JDM look to the car.

Lowered and extended, the GV60 Magma is deceptive (like any car that is lowered and extended!) but remains a big kid. The overall silhouette is reminiscent of the Veloster.

Inside, there are Nappa leather and suede seats.

price

I don’t know since this brand is not sold in France but as a reminder, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is sold for 78,000 euros and the Kia EV6 GT, around 75,000 euros.

If the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N is successful (read our review), why not give it a go at Genesis. However, the Kia EV6 GT is also based on the same platform and is not quite as powerful. To find out which way this GV60 Magma will lean.

Alternatively, for those wondering, the low and slim sports car we see in the picture is the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta, a study of style inspired by virtual sports cars that we see in video games like Gran Turismo. He also began his career as a Gran Turismo e-sport finalist. So we doubt if it will make it to production one day…
