Mercedes-Benz G-class electric has one big problem

The curtain has been pulled back on the all-electric Mercedes-Benz G-class in Germany. An absolutely insane EV with a spec list that will blow your mind.

The full name of the model is Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology. Why the EV in Stuttgart isn’t called EQG is a mystery to us. Not only is this taste excellent, it will also be similar to other electric models in the Mercedes arsenal.

Maybe it’s because this electric SUV doesn’t quite fit in with those models. While the updated EQS and its siblings had to endure severe wind tunnel treatment, the electric Mercedes-Benz G-class borrows its aerodynamic characteristics from the brick. The hood does climb a little steeper, but that’s about it.

The fact that the Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology has a range of 470 km despite its angular design looks impressive. However, be aware that between the ladder chassis is a large 116 kWh battery pack. Like the new G 63 AMG, you buy an electric Mercedes-Benz G-class with low consumption.

That huge battery pack itself weighs 700 kg. And then we come to the Achilles heel of the electric all-terrain vehicle: its weight. The animal weighs no less than 3,085 kg fresh on the hook. Go out with four best friends and there’s a chance you’ll have to get your C1 driving license first.

Because of that high rate burden of payment of this EV only 415 kg. Any more than that and you exceed the 3,500kg restriction limit. This is also the reason Mercedes does not offer a towbar on the electric G-class.

So it’s not a multi-purpose workhorse that you can trailer to your dressage horse or boat. However, it is still a real land killer. Each wheel has its own electric motor and gearbox (at the bottom gear) This gives off-road possibilities. For example, an electric car can rotate on its axis like a tank, by moving two wheels in front and two wheels in back.

The electric Macan still feels (sometimes) like a real Porsche

Also shapes hydrolock (where the combustion engine absorbs water and tries to squeeze it in vain) is not dangerous for this Mercedes-Benz G model, which means that the device can go through water up to a depth of 85 cm. There is no loss of power when driving off-road. The Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ technology has 587 hp and 1,164 Nm of torque. It is enough to run from 0 to 100 km / h in less than five seconds. Top speed, on the other hand, is usually 180 km/h. Would you like to know more about the electric G-class? Then watch our video.
