De Croo wants to complete the Audi Brussels deal before the election

There has been uncertainty about the future of the car factory in Vorst for some time. The site will no longer create a successor to the current Audi Q8 e-tron model after 2027. Together with the task force, De Croo and the regions want to file for the car manufacturer, so that the cars will continue to roll off the production line after 2027.

“The production of one model is guaranteed until 2027, but the question is what will come after that. The decision will be made in November,” De Croo said before the start of the Wetstraat 16. “We have to make sure that we here in Brussels are ready to play our cards and see what we need to work on.”

Great potential in the automotive industry

De Croo emphasized that Audi Brussels is a competitive factory and “a pioneer in electric vehicles and which has a large amount of knowledge.” On the other hand, he admitted that there is great potential in the European automotive industry.

For example, work can be done on the availability of equipment, it said. De Croo certainly wants to make progress very quickly with a “declaration of intent”. He wants the task force to meet “at least once and possibly twice” before the June 9 election. “It would be good if we had the file ready for the election date. After the election, I hope we can start as soon as possible.”
