This is what the 2024 DTM support plan looks like

(Motorsport-Total.com) – The BMW M2 Cup will also take place as part of the DTM support program in 2024! After the bankruptcy of Project 1 Drivetime GmbH, which has hosted the Cup for the past three years, it was initially unclear whether the race series would continue. Like a few weeks ago from Motorsport-Total.com reports, ADAC itself has been looking at the future of the BMW M2 Cup – but with a twist!

“It would be a shame not to hold this Cup again,” explains ADAC Motorsport boss Thomas Voss. “The cars are there, nothing new needs to be built. They are in top condition – all of them. And for us that fits perfectly in this ADAC circuit racing performance pyramid.”

It was originally planned that the BMW M2 Cup would run as part of the DTM for three years after ADAC took over the series last year. This was agreed upon by Project 1 Drivetime GmbH, but due to bankruptcy it almost ended. “Then we quickly sat down and thought about what we were going to do with these cars,” says Voss.

The hole created by the DTM support program could be filled by another series, says the ADAC Motorsport boss. But in addition to the German Cup, “there are also similar Cups in Italy and the Benelux countries with the same cars, which are all discontinued, meaning that 60 to 70 cars are on the market.”

“After much discussion – including with racing teams that have used these cars before or would like to use them – we have now decided to continue the BMW M2 Cup under this name,” confirms Voss. “Albeit in a different context: no longer as a major effort, as it was in the last three years, but as a team effort like a one-man trophy.”

BMW M2 Cup 2024: Individual teams, divided into three classes

However, this assumes that there are enough teams for the race series. To give the participants more time to plan and prepare, the BMW M2 Cup only starts on the second race weekend at the Lausitzring, and not at the DTM opener in Oschersleben. Five races will take place as part of the DTM in the 2024 season.

The starting point is divided into three classes: the M2 is available in two different versions: one with 450 hp and the other with 365 hp. Both vehicle types are registered and assessed separately. There’s also the BMW M240i, the predecessor to the current M2, which is still available in large numbers and is known especially from the Nordschleife.

The BMW M2 Cup will continue with private teams in 2024 Grow

“We will have 120 minutes of driving time for the drivers at the weekend,” explains Voss, who sees the concept of the BMW M2 Cup as an intermediate step between the karting and GT4 championships, because “I was always skeptical about whether you could get out out of the kart “You have to get into a 500 hp car right away or there shouldn’t be a middle ground,” says the ADAC Motorsport boss.

“That’s why the M2 Cup always made sense. The fact that we can hold it as ADAC has the charm that we can keep it the way we need it,” he refers to his own athletic pyramid.

ADAC GT Masters
After a weak season last year, the ADAC GT Masters returns stronger this year, even if they expected more than 16 cars. The new class structure means that young talents and inexperienced pilots are given more attention. Unlike the DTM, two drivers share the same car, so there is a mandatory pit stop in the middle of the race. Around 20 GT3 cars from Audi, BMW, Lamborghini, Mercedes-AMG as well as Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari are fighting for the title and prize money of more than 570,000 euros this year.

ADAC GT4 Germany
All twelve ADAC GT4 Germany races take place as part of the DTM. 11 teams with 24 cars from five manufacturers are competing this year – supported by impressive guest starters. Anyone who owns ADAC GT4 Germany can enter ADAC GT Masters or even DTM. In recent years, the racing series has proven to be an excellent career path for young talent.

Model Cup Germany
The exclusive series of Le Mans prototypes in Germany will start its third season in 2024, with three events taking place as part of the DTM: the German Prototype Cup will feature the Lausitzring, the Nürburgring and the Sachsenring. The 455 hp LMP3 cars are eye-catching and ensure exciting racing action.

DTM Classic
DTM Classic Legends guarantees a great timed ride on the DTM race at the Norisring. In line with the DTM’s 40th birthday, many car classes from GT and touring cars are represented in “Franconian Monaco” guise – some even featuring the stars of the time.

Porsche cups to make one
The one-off Porsche Cups have a long tradition as part of the DTM support program, which will continue in 2024. The Porsche Carrera Cup Germany will accompany the DTM in six events, while the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux will be a guest at the race weekend in Zandvoort on the beach of the Dutch North Sea. All drivers start with the 510-hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which promises exciting racing action.

NXT Gen. Cup
The Swedish NXT Gen Cup was also run alongside the DTM last year. Drivers compete in electric power with up to 230 hp LRT NXT 1, which is based on the street legal Mini Cooper SE. The youth series is primarily attended by young talents who hope to have a successful career in motorsport. They can turn their attention to the DTM races at Norisring and Hockenheim. More events are planned.

European and Alpine Regional Formula Championships
The formula series will also be part of the support program in the 2024 DTM season: at the guest event in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, the young talents of the European and Alpine Formula Regional Championships will fight for best times and race wins. All pilots drive with the uniform F3 T-318 chassis from Tatuus to ensure a completely equal opportunity.

ADAC Ost Historical Cup
At the DTM race at the Lausitzring, visitors can look forward to the ADAC East Historic Cup, which revives racing history in the former GDR with its historic formula cars and touring cars.
