The A33 was closed permanently on Saturday evening after a serious accident. Three people were injured. One driver was very lucky.

Halle (NRW) – On Saturday evening at 8:25 pm, three people were injured in a fatal accident on the A33, a good kilometer before the Halle junction towards Paderborn. The highway was closed for two hours.

After the driver of the Hyundai i30 Fastback was thrown into the right side protection zone, the sports car was left lying on the side of the road. A few moments after the 21-year-old driver from Bielefeld got out of the car, the driver (58) of a Mazda 6 station wagon noticed the unlit barrier too late and hit the driver’s side of the Hyundai.

The injured received emergency treatment and were then taken to hospitals in Bielefeld. The Mazda driver and his 33-year-old wife were taken to the Mitte Clinic, the Hyundai driver to Gilead I.

At the last moment, the Hyundai driver got out of his car before the Mazda hit the driver’s door.

Eyewitnesses told police officers at the scene of the accident that they had been overtaken by a Hyundai at a high speed a few hundred meters from the scene of the accident. Based on their own speed and maneuvering speed, the speed was estimated to be around 200 kilometers per hour.

Crash on the A33: Two cars damaged by flying debris

After the accident, two other cars were damaged by flying debris, the Skoda with license number Warendorf could not continue the journey and had to be towed as an accident car.

About two dozen firefighters were on the scene under the leadership of fire chief Niklas Loffeld. They illuminated the crash site and dispersed the spilled operating equipment. The highway police were also assisted to secure the scene of the accident.

The total damage is estimated by the police at least 60,000 euros, at 10:45 pm the two roads were released again.

After the crash on the A44, police searched for the wrong-way driver for a long time. A photo with the man’s description was even published for the search. Now the woman has been found: The 59-year-old woman from northern Hesse surrendered at the police station.
