A temporary outage
GMC is delaying the all-electric version of the Sierra EV for a year. Chevrolet is doing the same with the Silverado EST. Production of the two vehicles was to begin next year at the Orion plant in Michigan. This must be reworked (currently combining Bolt and Bolt EUV) at a cost of US$1.5 billion. General Motors assures that the strike called by the United Auto Workers (UAW) is not related to this decision. The American manufacturer, however, mentions the need to slow down its transition to all-electricity in order to better anticipate costs and demand.
Full range
It’s with its foot on the floor that GMC is changing its Sierra lineup. GMC is overhauling its entire lineup with a sprinkle here and there of new versions of the AT4, AT4X and Denali Ultimate for its 2500 and 3500 HD (Heavy Duty) series. The 1500 series, on the other hand, is enriched with the AT4X AEV version. This, like the Denali Ultimate (our test bench), offers a choice between a six-cylinder turbodiesel or a 6.2-litre petrol V8. Note that the AT4 is aimed primarily at off-road enthusiasts.
