The Cannes Film Festival today also celebrated the arrival of Gran Turismo with a photo shoot, led by Orlando Bloom.
The red carpet, with a relative’s phone, was held today in Cannes and Gran Turismo, the new Sony Pictures film directed by Neill Blomkamp based on the famous racing saga. The film is inspired by the true story of a young Gran Turismo player, Jann Mardenborough, who, by winning a series of competitive races in the video game, succeeds in becoming a real professional driver. In the cast, along with David Harbor (Stranger Things) and Orlando Bloom (Lord of the Rings), there is Archie Madekwe (Les Miserables) in the title role, Darren Barnet (Never have I ever…), Djimon Hounsou (Blood). Diamond – Blood Diamond) and Geri Halliwell-Horner (Spice Girls – The movie). Gran Turismo will be in theaters exclusively from September 20, produced by Sony Pictures and distributed by Eagle Pictures.
Neill Blomkamp, about his experience with the film, announced that he had some doubts at first, given that he usually deals with dystopian science fiction, while here was a car racing simulator to be adapted for the movies:
(…) but then read the documents, and I personally own three [Nissan] R35 GTRs: I have a real passion for Nissan and the entire Nismo range. So, as a car lover, I was immediately intrigued. (…) It never occurred to me that I could direct a film where the audience would leave the theater uplifted and inspired. I was very interested. (…) Usually in my films there is a person exploding or some genetically modified creature out of control. I never thought in a billion years that I would ever make a sports or racing film. It’s amazing even now that I say it.
