News: Hyundai renews IONIQ 5

The front of the IONIQ 5 gets a more prominent V shape. Revamped front and rear bumpers add to the look. The new bumpers increase the height by 20 mm to 4,655 mm, while other dimensions (width of 1,890 mm, height of 1,605 mm and wheelbase of 3,000 mm) remain unchanged. Exterior changes also reduce air resistance, which the rear spoiler is extended by 50 mm and new aerodynamic wheels also contribute.

The interior promises more comfort and ease of use. On the central console, and especially in the upper part of the so-called Universal Island, a physical button is placed that controls frequently used functions, including heating and ventilation functions of the front seats, steering wheel temperature and function of parking assistance. . Additionally, the wireless smartphone charging port is placed higher on the center console and is therefore more accessible. The steering wheel is a new design with interactive pixel lighting. The infotainment and climate controls have been improved.

Equipment

Hyundai is also introducing the latest generation of its infotainment system in the IONIQ 5, called the connected car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). This also enables Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates for vehicle systems. This allows the driver to update the car’s electronic software in the IONIQ 5 without going to the dealer.

In addition, the updated IONIQ 5 offers safety and convenience-oriented equipment required by the European Union. These include Steering Hand Detection (HOD), Lane Keeping Assist 2, Remote Park Assist 2 (RSPA 2) and Forward/Side/Reverse Collision Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R ). In addition, features desired by many customers are now part of the equipment, such as Intelligent Front Light System (IFS), Digital Key 2, Built-In Cam 2 and remote-controlled folding rear seat.

Driving comfort

The updated IONIQ 5 has different shock absorbers that promise more driving comfort by filtering vibrations from the road surface. The connecting beam between the struts is stronger, which should ensure less vibration in the steering wheel. Additionally, reinforcements have been applied to the rear suspension and lower body parts for more stable and precise handling. The body work has also been done to reduce the sound of low-frequency noise and the already low noise of the car. Additional insulation materials around the electric motor at the back also contribute to more peace and quiet in the interior.

Occupant protection in the event of a side impact has been improved with targeted reinforcements in the body, front and rear doors and B-pillars. The IONIQ 5 has eight airbags, including rear airbags, for added safety.

The 2024 model year IONIQ 5 will be launched in South Korea in March. This will be followed by a rollout to other markets, including the Netherlands.
