Iker Lecuona (24) has returned to his Supermoto/World Superbike Championship roots

Iker Lecuona’s career continued at record speed: when the Spaniard signed his first contract with Honda Racing Corporation for the World Superbike Championship in October 2021, he was only 21 years old. Before that, he rode MotoGP for two years and the Moto2 World Championship for four years.

What few people know: When he was very young, Lecuona even participated in the Supermoto S1 World Championship event. In fact, supermoto is the Honda rider’s secret love; He has already returned to this fascinating form of motorsport several times.

And next weekend Lecuona will do it again with a guest appearance in Albaida as part of the Spanish Supermoto series. The Spaniard, who hails from Valencia, will ride a competitive CRF450-R for Honda’s SGR Grau Racing team.

“I’m very happy to be part of the SGR team,” said Lecuona, looking forward to a change during the long Superbike break. “I’ve been competing in supermoto since I was ten years old and I’ve known Àngel all my life. It’s definitely a competitive and professional team. Above all, I want to have fun in this race at a special track like Albaida and I’m looking forward to getting back on the bike after the injuries several and a very difficult start to the season.”

Lecuona missed the season opener at Phillip Island after a crash and was also not at full strength in Barcelona. With just three championship points, the Honda driver is currently 18th in the overall standings.
