Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur is calling for caution because despite victory in Australia and second place in the constructors’ championship, he believes there is still no certainty that Ferrari’s ‘tyre problems’ have been resolved.

Last year, tire wear on the Ferrari F1 car was a major problem, which often made Ferrari more competitive during qualifying than during the race. At the end of last season there was already an improvement in Ferrari and this season the SF-24 seems to have taken a further step forward.

However, team boss Frederic Vasseur wants to wait for a few more races under cold conditions to see if the Ferrari SF-24 can perform well under those conditions. The first race of the season was held under warm conditions and the new Ferrari F1 car performed more than adequately.

“I think we have good tire management from the start of the season,” Vasseur said at Suzuka. “With the tire damage, we were able to do a very quick lap in Jeddah and in Melbourne on the last lap. It was about a matter of a tenth or so, I think.

“I think we’ve made really good progress in that area, we’ve worked really hard in our weak point and we’ve improved a lot in terms of tire management, drivers, strategy and the team.”

“And yes, we definitely have other weaknesses now and we will have to improve in other areas to make sure we do well.”
