Koenigsegg unveils the Gripen Atelier and unveils the Gemera HV8 version

Christian von Koenigsegg, founder, and CEO of Koenigseggsays, “We are delighted to launch the Gripen Atelier and announce the launch of the Customer Specification Gemera, a truly unique Megacar. Boasting many exciting updates and enhancements over previous series offerings, the Customer Specification Gemera sets new industry benchmarks.

As the world’s first 4-seater Megacar, defined by its astonishing power of more than 1 megawatt, the Gemera was already an astonishing feat of engineering. However, the Customer Specification version takes it even further with pioneering developments.

Side of Koenigsegg Gemera

Initially, plans were to include Koenigsegg’s Direct Drive system on the Gemera, as shown on the 2020 Gemera show car and featured in the first running examples. This ingenious and unique solution, successfully implemented in the Regera project, provided the perfect combination of efficiency, power, and portability.

However, during the development process, the Light Speed Transmission (LST) was introduced in the famous Jesko, which offers unparalleled excitement and performance. Its ability to remove the flywheel and clutch from the engine elevates driver engagement and excitement to unprecedented levels.

“We couldn’t resist exploring the possibility of incorporating these incredible features and benefits into Gemera’s production model, leading us to an exciting new path of development – the Tourbillon Light Speed Transmission (LSTT),” explains Christian.

To support the engine and LSTT, the R&D team has also developed “Dark Matter” E-motorwhich appears to be covered in fake carbon fiber, weighing 39kg. It is an 800 hp, 1250 Nm patent-pending Raxial Flux E-motor that is a revolutionary leap in electric motion, representing the most powerful engine of the E-motor car standard with 6-phase technology.

One Dark Matter is now paired with LSTT, instead of 3 Quarks E-motors and a Direct Drive system. This makes the drivetrain lighter, smaller, and even more attractive. The LSTT four-wheel drive system and four-wheel torque vectoring can be powered by the 800 hp Dark Matter E-motor or the twin-turbo TFG, or a combination of the two, resulting in a maximum output of 1400 hp and 1850 Nm.

Thanks to its new lightweight electric propulsion system and efficient use of the TFG and LSTT regeneration series, the speed and performance of the Gemera has been significantly improved compared to the previous version which was already efficient and fast.

The Customer Order Generator not only retains its original features but also adds flexibility and responsiveness to LST in the form of LSTT. “We added ‘Tourbillon’ to the LST name, as this mechanism represents the equivalent of a high-end Swiss watch movement and is elegant,” explains Christian von Koenigsegg.

Designing a transmission that accommodates four seats, a mid-engine position, electric propulsion, and yet can offer nine gears, torque vectoring, and four-wheel drive at a weight lower than ever before requires great creativity and innovation.

In the spring of 2020, the world witnessed the introduction of the amazing Koenigsegg Gemera concept. Now, Koenigsegg is unveiling the Customer Specification Gemera and its birthplace, the Gripen Atelier, at the Koenigsegg Campus in Ängelholm, Sweden.

However, they have another exciting announcement—no Koenigsegg Gemera HV8 (Hot V8) Edition. it is made of carbon monocoque. The HV8 elevates the Gemera beyond any Hypercar or Megacar and takes everything to the next level. Before coming up with the LSTT, it was impossible to believe that they could fit a mid-engined V8 configuration in the Gemera, given the large occupant space in comparison to the compact size of the Gemera.

However, the LSTT arrangement allowed them to do it. To do this, they had to change the Jesko V8 to the so-called Moto V8 where the exhaust exits from the top channel, but otherwise, it is the same as the Jesko engine.

Combining the great sound, sensitivity and power of the Jesko V8 with the daring engineering of Gemera creates a new category.

With this new engine configuration, the Gemera boasts an incredible 1500 hp from the HV8 along with 800 hp provided by the Dark Matter E-motor, resulting in a total of 2,300 hp and 2,750 Nm of torque – a new world record for a production car.

“The Gemera HV8 is not only the most powerful and extreme production car on the planet, with an amazing 1.11 hp per kg, but it is also the most practical and efficient sports car ever created. Its incredible response, handling, engine sound , crossover transmission, spacious interior, and four-wheel drive systems combine to create a unique and unparalleled driving experience, ready to set numerous performance records around tracks and straight lines. We are very proud to bring the Gemera to life HV8 and we are very much looking forward to delivering this new level of performance and technology to our beloved customers and fans,” says Christian.
