Le Matin Auto at the wheel of the Kia Sorento 1.6 Hybride Executive+

Since its hybrid technology develops 230 hp and its seven seats on board, the new Kia Sorento hybrid presents itself as a very attractive offering.

After presenting the new Kia Sorento in 2021 in its diesel version, Kia Morocco has just introduced a hybrid version. The South Korean SUV itself is a stylish large car in all its forms, and the hybrid is no different in beauty.
The bold front fascia combines triple-beam headlights with a “Tiger Nose” grille, while a large black hole at the base of the bumper hides the quad-LED fog lights. And the fake guard, which is purely cosmetic, has a very neat shiny silver finish. The only features that clearly differentiate the Sorento hybrid from the petrol model are the raised vents at each corner of the bumper.

premium interior
The interior of the Sorento Hybrid is similar to any other Sorento, with the same simple, yet robust cabin layout. Black faux leather covers the seats, foam plastic covers the dash and door panels, and bright aluminum accents surround the air conditioning and center console. On the passenger side dashboard, there is a geometrically designed silver trim that gives it a more premium look.
The leather seats offer ample back support with power adjustments and the option of heating and ventilation for the two front seats. And the second row bench seat is also a good spot, with plenty of head and legroom. The third row is another story. Back seat access isn’t a problem, a single button at the bottom of the second row throws the bench forward, giving average-sized adults plenty of room to squeeze. But once you’re seated, the raised floor makes sitting a little awkward.
Another highlight of the Sorento Hybrid is its level of equipment. Our test Executive+ has a dual-screen display, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen. The Mirror Link function, GPS navigation and 360° camera and many other features are integrated into the screen. It is also equipped with induction charging for phones, hands-free access and starting, driving lanes, power trunk and sunroof.

230 hp hybrid
A good 230bhp and 350Nm of torque comes from the 1.6-litre turbocharged hybrid configuration. It’s not particularly impressive for a three-row SUV, but it offers enough power to move larger SUVs over two tons. This powertrain is an absolute hero around town, with just enough torque to pass and attack the highway. In combined use, it posted 6.5 liters per 100 km, which is excellent for an SUV of this size.
Unlike the diesel Sorento, which is more sporty to drive, the hybrid prefers to adopt an economical and quiet driving style. It spins smoother than the standard model, and also handles turns well. Steering is still as light here as it is in the diesel model, which helps maneuverability in tight parking lots, at least, but it lacks feedback otherwise.
As with technology, Kia offers plenty of safety features that work out of the box. Our model is equipped with automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring with video, lane keeping and centering assist, hill descent control and adaptive cruise control. Safety equipment is not lacking in this South Korean SUV.

Decision
Large, comfortable and well-equipped, the Sorento has the advantage of being one of the rare seven-seat hybrid SUVs. Its sharp design and its length of 4.81 m reflect the style of a large American SUV, a type of car that is very popular with Moroccans. Its reduced consumption, its performance and its good road behavior are the factors that help this new Sorento hybrid to sell.
