The era of large ships seems to be over on the European Union markets. Due to stricter CO2 regulations from Brussels, it may be necessary for premium manufacturers to expand their portfolio downwards. Japanese luxury brand Toyota now demonstrates this with the Lexus LBX (2024). As is common in the automotive industry, Lexus used standard equipment from the main company. The LBX is based on the Toyota GA-B subcompact platform and is thus the technical sibling of the Yaris Cross. Lexus LBX will be launched in mid-2024, price is 32,990 (as of December 2023). Drive: Full hybrid with front or all-wheel drive (technical data)

Lexus LBX (2024) is powered by a full hybrid system with a power of 136 hp (100 kW) and a maximum torque of 185 Nm. This means that the sprint to 100 km / h should be achieved in 9.2 s, and the top speed should be limited to electric up to 180 km / h. In the front-wheel drive LBX, a 1.5 liter three-cylinder petrol engine works together with an electric motor. Lexus E-Four all-wheel drive is also available on request, which uses an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The energy is provided by a newly developed nickel-metal hydride battery, which is intended to enable short, electric-only trips.

Exterior: Advanced Diabolo Grill

At 4.19 m long, the Lexus LBX (2024) is the smallest Lexus ever and was developed specifically for Europe. However, the wheelbase has grown by two centimeters to 2.58 m compared to the Yaris Cross, which promises better space in the back. The LBX breaks new ground in design: its trapezoidal radiator grille departs from the spindle-shaped front grille of previous years. To reduce weight, Lexus uses an aluminum hood. The wheel arches, sills and lower areas of the door are made of molded resin.
