Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati): Back to old power? / MotoGP

The Pertamina Enduro VR46 MotoGP team with Marco Bezzecchi secured a clean fourth place in Jerez on Friday. The Italian believes he is on the right track to find the leaders.

On Friday, Marco Bezzecchi crashed his Ducati Desmosedici GP24 at Turn 1 of the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto during afternoon practice. The Italian rebounded to finish in a respectable fourth place – 0.399 seconds behind Pecco Bagnaia (Ducati) in first place.

After the last race, in which “Bez” had to fight hard, he feels stronger in Jerez. “A good start to the weekend if you compare it to the previous races. I don’t want to go out on a limb and say that I’m back, because recently things got worse after a good phase. But I felt good about the state of the rail in the first few meters,” reported the youngster the 25-year-old. “I made great progress in the peak area of the curve, where the problems were from the first attempt.”

“I had a big problem, but I was able to improve step by step – on the brakes, at the entrance of the corner and on the exit. “I didn’t advance further until I got a few good points on Friday,” was the comment from the Ducati rider, who celebrated the victory third in MotoGP last year. “The feeling now is the same as last year. Of course I haven’t gotten close enough to the high riders yet; This is definitely the tenth most difficult part. Overall, I’m very happy with the start of the weekend.”

Why is Bezzecchi’s upgrade coming to Jerez of all places? “The track has less grip compared to the last tracks,” he said and added: “That helps to turn the bike a little easier and more movement on the rear wheel. I was already strong on the brakes in Texas and Portimão, but when I turn, with less grip, I feel better. I can be more comfortable with the bike without changing anything about the setting.”

«The bike needs less weight in front to go through the curve. I’m used to it, even if it’s hard for me,” admitted Bezzecchi. “I still have to remind myself when I’m driving how important it is. Sometimes it works, sometimes I go back to the old style.
