Maserati GranCabrio: The luxury convertible is back

Maserati GranCabrio: The luxury convertible is back

In 2009, the Italian car manufacturer, now in the hands of the Stellantis Group, presented the GranCabrio at the IAA in Frankfurt and brought it to the market at the beginning of 2010 – it ended in 2019. In 2024, Maserati will also launch a convertible again after the new GranTurismo (see video ).

It remains with the upper fabric

As with the coupe, the GranCabrio looks similar to its predecessor, but is technically miles ahead. Based on the new aluminum architecture, the replacement weight is 1,895 kg, almost 100 kg more than the closed version. The headlights are now vertically aligned and the grill and apron have been modified. The exterior mirrors are no longer in the window triangle, but in the door sills and bow handles have also given way to aerodynamic door openers. Everything looks smaller and more muscular than before. The rear has low lights and a modified apron. When it comes to roof construction, Maserati stays true to the electrically powered fabric top. At the push of a button, it folds into its convertible top behind the rear seats in 14 seconds and at a speed of up to 50 km/h. The closing process takes 16 seconds. The adjustable top is designed to change and adjust the volume of the trunk to the condition of the roof. The thermally and acoustically insulated roof is available in five colors. If the car is driven with the top down, the neck air conditioner warms the passengers in three steps. A wind deflector that surrounds the rear seats is available at an additional cost.

Nettuno V6 with up to 550 hp

The Maserati GranCabrio comes with air suspension and all-wheel drive as standard. It is powered by a 3.0 liter six-cylinder turbo engine called the Nettuno. The V6 in the Trofeo variant, which is only available for now, produces 550 hp and 650 Nm of torque. There is a possibility to add a version of 490 hp and 600 Nm Modena as GranTurismo. An electronic variant similar to the GranTurismo Folgore is also planned. Power is transmitted through an eight-speed two-speed transmission from ZF. The driver can choose from four driving programs Comfort, GT, Sport and Corsa as well as the “ESC off” option. Up front, the convertible rolls on 20-inch rims and 265/30 tires. There are 21 inch wheels at the back and covered with 295/30 rollers.

Lots of screens and paddle shifters

The GranCabrio’s cockpit design is undoubtedly based on the GranTurismo. The pilot views a 12-inch individually configurable display. Header display is available for an additional charge. The multifunction steering wheel, which is mounted on the bottom, has fixed shift paddles. There are three additional screens in the center console: a small round clock screen at the top, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen below, and below, at a slightly curved angle, an 8.8-inch screen for controlling convenience features.

Price and market launch

It is not yet known when and at what price the Maserati GranCabrio will be available from us. The Coupe GranTurismo currently starts at 178,608 euros like the Modena, the Trofeo variant costs from 222,535 euros and the electric Folgore sells for 198,212 euros. The convertible version should be higher.

… the best car!… ein No-Go!

Maserati will launch the new GranCabrio in the spring of 2024 after the first generation was discontinued in 2019. Technically, the open sports car uses the GranTurismo.
