New Mercedes-Benz Actros L reports

Recently, in complete secrecy, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new Actros L at the Wörth am Rhein plant. Of course Truckstar was there. The new Mercedes-Benz Actros L long-range diesel truck shares its cabin with the previously introduced eActros 600.

It really wasn’t a big surprise that the Actros L would have the same cabin as the eActros 600. After all, we’ve already seen several spy shots of the new ProCabin in a diesel-powered truck. However, it will take time to get used to seeing the cabin of the future without the traditional grille on the road. The light green color that Mercedes-Benz has chosen as the introductory color looks better than the white of the eActros 600. There was a lot of criticism about this and it seems that the Germans took it seriously. It takes time to get used to, but in real life the quality of construction of the new cabin is surprising: it looks beautiful.

ProCabin

The new cabin is only available for the Actros L and eActros 600, Mercedes’ top models. Other variants, such as the Actros F, will retain their current cabin. Special versions, such as the Actros SLT for heavy transport, also retain the old cabin. The new Actros L and its future cabin can be ordered immediately, production will start in December this year.

Aerodynamics

Aerodynamics is a magic word among truck manufacturers and Daimler Truck is no different. The completely new appearance of the Actros L is immediately noticeable. The ProCabin design, which debuted at the world premiere of the electric eActros 600 in October 2023, is fully focused on excellent aerodynamics. From the front spoiler to the sleek grille, the improved design reduces air resistance and results in fuel savings of up to 3%, the manufacturer claims. Improvements such as simplified entry, improved wheel arch coverage and a seamless transition between tractor and trailer contribute to better airflow.

Comfort

Driver comfort and aesthetics are also very important when buying a truck. Notable details include a fully painted exterior, including the Mercedes-Benz star and dark chrome lettering, as well as aluminum running boards. The Actros L has full LED lighting as standard for optimal illumination. Matrix headlights are available as an option, including a high beam assistant that can provide more light.

Inside, the ProCabin, available in Stream, Big and GigaSpace variants, offers a host of comfort features, such as heated seats, a new high-rise seat and beds with a slatted base and a thick premium mattress. New features include wider control panels on the beds, mood lighting and additional LED reading lights. Other options include additional USB-C connectors, a high-quality curtain, a second refrigerator, a 230V socket and the SoloStar Concept, now available in two new types of upholstery.

Third generation OM 471 diesel engine

The third generation 12.8 liter OM 471 diesel engine, available with the OM 470 and OM 473 diesel engines, is designed for economical driving, low CO2 emissions and high efficiency without sacrificing performance, dynamics or comfort. The new OM 471 introduces two specific turbos, including a long-distance transport variant aimed at a higher fuel saving of 4% compared to the previous generation.

Under the skin, not much has changed in the new Actros L, but of course all the safety systems have also been improved. Only from April 2025 will the German truck manufacturer introduce a new multimedia system program with more connectivity options.

Production of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros L and eActros 600 will start in December this year. So wait a little longer before we see these new trucks, both electric and diesel, on the road. But they are going to show up.
