Tesla Supercharger accepts other brands, but with new conditions

Tesla has revised its acceptance of competing electric vehicles Supercharger. Now you should register.

From 13 April 2024, if you own an electric car other than a Tesla, you will still be able to access Supercharger charging stations, but you will first need to take out a registration. This is charged 12.99 euros per month and allows you to get the same price per kW as any Tesla owner.

This change in the rules of the game by Tesla for its Superchargers caused a wave of panic among Tesla customers who received a mysterious email.

Many customers, quite correctly, did not understand whether they were automatically registered with the payment of 12.99 euros per month, or whether it was given to them. It is this second solution that is correct.

However, the message suggests that nothing has changed for other drivers, but the idea is really to reduce congestion in charging points by encouraging registration, and therefore maintaining the loyalty of “bad” customers. That’s the game. The difference in price between “subscriber” and “non-subscriber” kW will be large enough to make the switch of subscription obvious.

Still better than Ionity

True to its policy of misrepresentation, Tesla does not say any more and invites you to refer to its application to know, in real time, the price of kW according to stations and times of attendance. On the same day, prices may double depending on peak or off-peak hours. Likewise, Mobiwisy noted that on holidays or peak traffic days, prices can explode due to opportunities.

Finally, the logic of Tesla’s monthly subscription is not a scam. The American manufacturer has invested at its own expense in the largest payment network in the world and can benefit from it today. His first European competitor, Unity, also charges a subscription of 12.90 euros per month to achieve lower prices of around 30%. Prices that, even reduced, remain higher than those of Tesla.

It remains to be seen when Tesla will force the subscription card to pay less for gasoline as well…
