Oklahoma grandmother has done 5K for more than 1,000 straight days

For more than 1,000 consecutive days, an Oklahoma grandmother has been successfully completing a 5 kilometer course, an impressive feat that she has accomplished with difficulty and technicality.

The remarkable accomplishment began in October 2015, when Sue Kenney, a 66-year-old resident of Bartlesville, Okla., first set out to complete the 5K course. Since then, Kenney has completed the race every single day, a streak that has lasted more than three years.

Kenney, who has multiple sclerosis and uses a cane to walk, was inspired to attempt the 5K streak by her desire to maintain her level of physical activity.

“I felt like I was slowly losing my physical abilities as MS progressed, so I wanted to challenge myself,” Kenney said. “I needed something to keep me motivated and focused in order to keep up my physical fitness.”

The 5K course is a challenging one, and Kenney must use a combination of technical skill and physical strength to complete it.

“It’s not an easy course,” she said. “I have to be very mindful of my form and technique in order to make it through. I also have to use a lot of mental focus and determination to get me through. It’s definitely not an easy task.”

Kenney has also had to deal with a number of physical setbacks during her streak, including a broken leg and a bout of pneumonia. But she has persevered, finishing her 5Ks despite the obstacles.

“I’ve had to work through a lot of pain and discomfort, but I’m determined to keep going,” Kenney said. “I’m determined to keep this streak going until I can’t do it anymore.”

Kenney’s accomplishment has earned her recognition from the community. Numerous local organizations have held events and fundraisers to honor her, and her story has even been featured in a national news magazine.

Still, Kenney is humble about her success.

“I don’t consider myself a hero or anything,” she said. “I’m just a regular person who set out to challenge myself and is doing the best I can.”

Kenney’s message of perseverance and determination has resonated with many people, and she hopes her story will inspire others to challenge themselves and never give up.

“It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it,” she said. “My message to others is to never give up, no matter what it is that you’re trying to do.”
