Peugeot E-5008: An electric masterpiece among compacts

Stellantis is slowly reaping the benefits of its new platform strategy. While current electric vehicles rely mostly on the E-CMP composite platform, the STLA platforms come with construction materials that put electric first in the specification. The new Peugeot E-5008 represents the biggest expansion step for the STLA Medium, which will be used in the compact class.

It is characterized by its impressive length of 4.79 meters and an extended wheelbase of 2.90 meters. This mass ensures plenty of space, especially in the third row of seats, and makes the E-5008 a true seven-seater SUV. Its design stands out with the aerodynamic front and back of a conventional SUV. The elegant roofline is enhanced by a silver strip, while the LED headlights and taillights emphasize the classic light signature of the lion brand.

The interior of the E-5008 is running smoothly. Two 10-inch displays dominate the cockpit in the base version, while the GT version has an impressive 21-inch panel display. Features such as speed steering technology, a heated steering wheel and customizable shifters enhance performance and comfort. . In addition, the modern voice control system enables easy access to various car functions, enhanced by ChatGPT integration. And the floaty look and clothes accessories also create a very pleasant environment.

The E-5008 impresses with its spacious interior and comfortable seating options. The second row of seats offers a 60/40 split configuration with folding seats, while the third row is easily accessible via an innovative access system. With a large trunk volume of up to 1,815 liters with seats folded down and a height of up to two meters and a flat loading area, the E-5008 proves to be the perfect family car for a variety of needs.

The E-5008 has three types of engines. The entry-level model is a 213 hp engine with front-wheel drive, followed by a 322 hp all-wheel drive version. Both models come with a 73 kWh battery for a good 500 km range. The top variant is a long-range 218 hp version with front-wheel drive and a battery of about 98 kWh – it should offer a range of 660 km. This would make Peugeot the front runner in the compact class. Charging is done with around 170 kW DC and 11 kW in the wall box. The French focused on increasing the efficiency of the new electric motors, while the innovative driving controls and chassis ensure a driving experience.

As the latest generation of electric SUVs, the Peugeot E-5008 faces the challenge of promoting itself in a highly competitive market segment. It is scheduled to hit the market in the fall of 2024 and, in addition to electric variants, will also be available as a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid.
