The Korean shipbuilding company HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has announced that it has entered into a joint venture with the large American industrial company GE Aerospace, formerly General Electric, for cooperation in the acquisition of naval orders abroad.
To this end, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries signed a memorandum of understanding with GE at Sea Air Space 2024, an international maritime exhibition held in Washington. The two companies intend to build world-class naval vessels using the LM2500 marine gas turbines supplied by the American company for export, the company said in a statement.
In addition to securing shipbuilding contracts, the two companies intend to collaborate in the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of warships being exported and to develop a next-generation naval vessel to tender for the Royal Australian Air Defense Project. of frigate Navy (RAN).
The partnership between HD HHI and GE began with the Ulsan-class of the ROK Navy in the 1970s. For decades, both companies have worked together on the ROK Navy’s propulsion system as a most reliable partner.
