Pop Choir Vocalicious performs a mini concert for CCO

The board of the Ommen Historical Cultural Center (CCO) has invited the pop choir Vocalicious to perform at its annual membership meeting. The ‘Singers’ will sing on Monday April 22 at 8pm at De Kern on the Bouwstraat in Ommen.

It is well known that choral singing is as old as the road to Rome. But Popkoor Vocalicious has a short life: 10 years. So far, the choir has filled a bit of CCO’s historical archives. But maybe that will change with this CCO move. Not to mention the fact that the CCO board maintains good relations with the pop choir: CCO Chairman Gerry Arts and CCO secretary Jan Doedens are both part of the choir. The April 22 performance will begin after a break from the regular CCO meeting agendas.

Second light

Pop Choir Vocalicious celebrates 10 years this year. In October 2013, an appeal was placed in the media about the possible establishment of a pop choir in Ommen. It turned out to be a success, because no less than sixty people showed up at the first rehearsal in the upper room of the Flater restaurant on the Markt.

A festival of memories

The official legal registration followed in 2014. And now ten years later, on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 March the second illumination was celebrated in a grand way at the Carrousel theater with a nearly sold-out house concert. It was also the biggest music event to date, where guests were transported back to the 70’s and 80’s with a swing. The Pop Vocalicious choir will also perform several songs from this successful concert for CCO, backed by its own line-up consisting of a keyboard player, guitarists and a drummer.

In those ten years, Vocalicious has become a household name in Ommen. The pleasure of enjoying and singing English and Dutch pop music together reigns supreme in the sound. There are four shows a year and the intention is to organize an appeal festival once every three years. Rehearsals take place every week under the professional and enthusiastic guidance of conductor Bertus van ‘t Floor from Enschede.
