Preview: Land Rover Defender Octa

Jaguar Land Rover bosses felt it was important to fit a bigger engine into the Defender. The result? Land Rover Octa Defender. Is it necessary? Probably not. But, cool stuff? Absolutely! We offer a small hint of a new attraction in the Land Rover range.

History of the Guard

Land Rover Defender has a rich history since its launch in 1948. The first model, known as Series 1, was introduced in our own country. In the following decades, Series 2 and 3 were launched. In 1983 the car was given the name “Defender” for the first time. Maybe because Land Rover was about to release a new car, the Discovery. Despite this name change, the Defender remained true to its origins as a spartan and capable off-road vehicle.

During the 1980s to 2000s, the Defender received several improvements in performance and safety. Without fundamentally changing the structure. Finally, the curtain fell on the “original” Land Rover Defender in 2016. But it was relaunched in 2020. This time as a modern interpretation of the Defender. The new design remains true to nature. Although with added luxury to meet the needs of modern consumers.

What is Beki Octa?

The Land Rover Defender Octa will be the new top of the line Defender, with a twin turbo V8! Although not yet confirmed, we can assume that the engine is the same as the one in the new Range Rover Sport SV. If the Defender delivers the same power as the Range Rover Sport SV, that’s about 630 HP. For this reason and thanks to the 6D Dynamics system, the Octa should be the creme de la creme of the Defender.

The 6D Dynamics system is a new approach to an old and familiar suspension and damping system. Apart from the traditional quiet bars. With advanced hydraulic controls you enjoy exceptional levels of roll support. This results in reduced movement during acceleration and stopping. This system does its job so well that you can achieve up to 1.1g of lateral acceleration! For a car as impressive as the Defender, this is very impressive.

All this together with the luxurious interior promised by Land Rover looks very good. Intense testing is currently being done on the latest Defender. The British brand says that it has never gone too far in the development of the Guardian. Testing takes place on glacial lakes in Sweden, deserts in Dubai but also the Nürburgring circuit. With this, Land Rover promises to put the strongest Defender ever on the market.

Competitions

These days almost everyone and their brother offers an SUV. Therefore, there are many very capable cars available. Consider the Lamborghini Urus. Or, for example, the aforementioned Range Rover Sport SV. Still the Defender Octa is a better product. Demonstration of technical ability. As we look at SUVs with a rich history, retro styling, luxurious interiors and power that makes you say “U”. Then there’s only one: the Mercedes AMG G63. Defender Octa joins this list.
