Seoul Semiconductor has applied its new Ultra-High Luminance “WICOP UHL” technology to the upper and lower beams of the GV80, the two lines that characterize Genesis vehicles. With its 200% improved brightness compared to existing mass-produced WICOP products, WICOP UHL is attracting the attention of the automotive market as an improved solution for small headlight designs. In addition, WICOP has been used for all GV80 headlight functions, including daytime running lights (DRL) and turn signals. This recognition is a testament to customers’ confidence in Seoul Semiconductor’s products.

WICOP UHL, used for micro lens arrays (MLA) in Genesis headlamps, is an auto-optimized product based on WICOP, ultra-small, high-efficiency LED technology. With up to 40% better heat dissipation than other LED products, the size of the lamp’s heat sink structure can be reduced by up to 75%. This technology makes it possible to reduce the size and weight, which are important factors in the design of the lamp, thus realizing a beautiful and modern design.

Genesis explained: “Using Seoul Semiconductor technology has improved the front-end integrity of the GV80, our luxury SUV. In particular, WICOP UHL’s ability to produce a large amount of light through a small LED production area of approximately 0.5 mm.2 along with MLA technology helped to improve visual quality. We expect the technology to be applied to additional models in the future.

Vice President In-heum Park of Seoul Semiconductor’s Automotive Division said: “WICOP technology is the world’s first technology developed by Seoul Semiconductor, which has been adopted by car manufacturers around the world and is used in more than 100 models every year. We will continue to develop automotive LED technologies to provide differentiated value to our customers.
