Subaru BRZ Touge: price, technical characteristics, engine, video

The Subaru it reports BRZ in Italy and Touge limited edition and the time has come to get behind the wheel of a Japanese Coupé. While the arrival on the market of a new car always remains a time of great caution, for car enthusiasts the arrival of a certain type of car raises the ante even more. In fact we can say that models like the Subaru BRZ still give us hope that we can drive cars with all the “right” features to dive straight into the roads that all of us Italians envy: Passo della Futa, Raticosa, Trento/Bondone and thousands of kilometers of more or less familiar tarmac, twisted around many hills and hills, but still very tasty, if handled by such vehicles.

Everything behind. Low center of gravity – lower than before, although only by 0.4 mm – and a distribution of mass that can be described as perfect; the engine is a trademark of Subaru and is a boxer, with increased displacement, power and torque compared to the previous one; traction remains behind; the gearbox, for these 60 models of the limited edition Touge, is only a six-speed manual; weight is 1,295 kg (declared by the manufacturer). I’m not a fan of rear-wheel drive, on the contrary, but the beauty of splitting the work between front and rear definitely gives a different flavor to the car, and that’s the case this time too.

Lots of fixes. The boxer engine increases the displacement to 2.4 liters by enlarging the bore (the inner diameter of the cylinder, which goes from 86 to 94 mm) while keeping the stroke unchanged: now it has 234 HP and 250 Nm strengthened by an adequate crankshaft and transmitted by a large pin; then we get changes to the diameter, length and shape of the intake manifold; valves have a more generous diameter as well as a different design; the radiator is enlarged and uses a more powerful fan. The gearbox has also been strengthened, as has the clutch, and boasts a carbon fiber quarter-balancer, as well as revised bearings. Finally, Torsen’s self-locking variant has been confirmed, which now has a box with heat dissipation fins and more durable rubber mounts.

More unique than rare. Subaru BRZ, therefore, is very flexible and responds to criticism strongly. It’s fun thanks to the supported structure but not too hard, equal to the perfect balance for use on the mountain path which, not surprisingly, means the Japanese word “Touge”. The aesthetic features of this limited edition are references to the world of Subaru-branded motorsport and although the BRZ lacks racing car ambitions, this hybrid makes it more suitable. Only 60 examples and the purchase price (around 50 thousand euros) make it something for a few lovers of the brand, who will be able to recognize the value of a car that is more unique than rare in today’s world of four wheels.
