Subaru BRZ Cup Car Delights Europe (2024)

Thank you Europe! Because many good metals have disappeared due to severe CO2 and safety regulations. This is not only about powerhouses such as the Audi R8 or Porsche Cayman, but also about “cheap” utility vehicles such as the Subaru BRZ. It has been ignoring our continent since its second generation – except for a few specimens. In Japan, however, the compact sports car is in its heyday. With a clear focus on customers who still put driving first.

Cup car

Subaru’s focus on customers who still enjoy the sport of driving becomes clear with the Cup Car Basic edition. It was designed specifically for owners who plan to take their BRZ to the track right away. It comes with a roll cage, disabling curtain airbags and additional oil cooler. Visually, the 16-inch steel rims immediately catch the eye. Of course, they’re only there because Subaru knows you’re going to put aftermarket rims on your race car anyway.

The air conditioning, rear seat and EyeSight security system all remain in this Base BRZ Cup Car, only the sound insulation is largely lost. So this variant remains street legal, but Subaru warns of reduced driving comfort and noise and more difficult entry and exit. Duh!

Race for your own brand

Nothing changes under the hood of the “Car Cup” As a result, the 2.4-liter boxer engine remains at the front with 234 hp and 250 Nm of torque not only aimed at frequent circuit drivers, because together with Toyota it has created a competition from bottom up where the BRZ and GR 86 compete in “Car Cup” form.

As if that wasn’t painful enough, Subaru is putting this BRZ on the market in Japan for 22,500 euros. European customers stood there … and looked at it.
