Germans remain at a disadvantage when it comes to their choice of model. As the Federal Motor Transport Authority announced on Monday, April 8, there were only changes in the list of best-selling models in March in one place. Tesla lost its lead in the SUV ranking to the VW T-Roc.

The Wolfsburg model had 6,606 new registrations in March – that’s more than double what Tesla managed with the Model Y. The US model had 3,244 units. Last month there were 5,408 units, but Tesla’s registration numbers usually fluctuate a lot. You can see all the best selling places in March 2024 in the following photo gallery:

By winning the SUV segment, VW now has six segment leadership positions, namely in the compact and medium class (Golf and Passat), in SUVs (T-Roc) and off-road vehicles (Tiguan) and in cars large cargo (Touran). ) and services (VW Transporter). Mercedes still manages the success of two segments (upper middle class and luxury class).

There were also changes in alternative drives. When it comes to plug-in hybrids, the Volvo XC60 recorded the newest registration in March 2024. The Swedes replace the Porsche Cayenne, which moved to the first place in this car group in February.

Other car models were the models with the highest registrations from the previous month. The electric vehicle (BEV) category is once again led by the Tesla Model Y, while the Toyota Mirai remains the leader among fuel cell vehicles. The best selling hybrid car is again the Toyota Yaris. Dacia Sandero remains the most registered gas car.

There was a double-digit increase in motor home registrations of 12.1 percent in the three regions. The compact class was up 8.9 percent compared to the same month last year, while small cars were up 2.7 percent. New SUV registrations fell 7.0 percent. However, with a share of 29.4 percent, this vehicle type continues to be the segment with the highest sales.
