More than sun and spring-like temperatures baptized the fifty-fifth edition of the Salento Rally. Starting at 9:00 today, the International Karting Circuit Pista Salentina in the marina of Torre San Giovanni welcomed the registered workers who first complied with the sports verification procedures and then the methods that dictated the start order.
There are 53 crews who have passed the preliminary stage for inclusion in the race and who will start from Piazza Mazzini, in Lecce, and then face the first participation organized in a special Super stage created along the asphalt strip of Pista Salentina. The prologue, which will provide the first chapter of the classification, 2.64 km long, which will feature competitors in races reserved for historic cars starting at 7.35pm and then modern cars at 8.20pm, will all come from ACI Sport. Sky TV Channel 228 and on Federation and Championship social platforms from 9.10pm. The awaited protagonists of the Italian Asphalt Rally Championship are all here, ready to fight for absolute success in this second round of the series. The list of those accepted for the initial calculations, in fact, only two defects: the crew number 23 Porro-Contini, on the National class N5 Toyota Yaris and the number 45 Garzia-Primiceri, on the Peugeot 106 Rallye N2. Among the historic ones, crew number 103 Totisco-Totisco on the Opel Manta 400 was the only one missing.
The morning and afternoon were also livened up by the Shakedown, a race car test that took place on the Specchia test strip and that the competitors will face in tomorrow’s race. The workers were able to collect their first opinion on the condition of the asphalt, intervene on the placement and modification of the vehicles. Several sections for about thirty cars and the public who were able to witness the spectacular sight of the race.
Among the top drivers, the already winner of the 2020 edition of the championship and of the race the year before, Corrado Fontana from Como in the Hyundai NG i20 WRC who covered 2.4 km of the shock in 1.33″9 showing his muscles once. . Good move too was demonstrated by the title holder on the Italian tarmac and the winner of the previous edition of the race Simone Campedelli in the Skoda Fabia Evo Rally2, who completed his best effort of the day in 1.34″4. Among the best times also that of Giuseppe Testa who, again in the car of the Bohemian company, he set a time just one tenth higher, that of Luca Rossetti in another Hyundai, but in the i20 N version, of the Rally2 class, who completed the track in 1.35″4 and Stefano Albertini also in the Skoda Fabia Evo Rally2 with less than one minute and 36″, leading in order Luca Pederoli in the Citroen Ds3 WRC and Giuseppe Bergantino in the Skoda Fabia Rally2.
