The Ferrari 499P takes the bumps in the test at Sebring

Ferrari has taken another important step in development that should bring the 499P its official entry into competition, this year in the WEC. Less than two months from this deadline, the Scuderia and its armed wing AF Corse crossed the Atlantic for an important test session at the demanding Sebring track. It is also on this circuit that the season will open next March.

Two days of testing are scheduled this week on this rough track, known to test the mechanics. All drivers assigned to the Hypercar program of the Italian brand (Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina, Nicklas Nielsen, Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado and Antonio Giovinazzi) participated in order to understand the place while continuing the valuable work of making the car.

Ferrari also announces that it has worked on several solutions aimed at improving the reliability of the 499P, especially in relation to suspension and chassis resistance. However, the Maranello team did not mention the distance recorded in this event.

“The Sebring tests were very important for us because we had the chance to test the 499P on the circuit where we will do it first”insists Alessandro Pier Guidi. “It is a circuit that is also very difficult on the mechanical aspects of the car. I really enjoyed driving on this track. The feedback after these two days is positive, we have gained experience and it will be important for the 1000 Miles. [de Sebring] and, above all, we were able to obtain accurate chronometric references compared to our competitors. We still have a lot of work to do to make further progress, but we know where to go.”

Ferrari will make its debut in the Hypercar category this year but it won’t be the only manufacturer in this category, inside the plate in which WEC organizers have chosen Cadillac, Vanwall and Porsche, which are joined by Peugeot, Toyota and Glickenhaus. Invitations to the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans, the centenary edition, will be revealed soon.
