Empty battery, charging station blocked – maybe from a car with a combustion engine? What electric car drivers can do against illegal parking.

Every driver of an electric car has probably already experienced such a situation: On the road on a long trip, everything is planned correctly while avoiding computer errors – and then charging an almost empty battery does not work after all. Because the charging point that the app shows is free and available is taken. Although no other e-mobile currently draws electricity, space in the range is limited (as in this case). For the car to use it as a parking space.

Illegal parking blocks the charging station: Drivers of electric vehicles are allowed to do so

It could definitely be a Stromer whose battery has been charged for a long time. To avoid such misuse, the use of a parking disc (how to put it correctly) is often necessary, with a maximum parking time of four hours, for example. Some internet operators also charge a so-called blocking fee, which is also paid after four hours at the same payment point.

Often, however, it is the drivers of vehicles with combustion engines who simply ignore the relevant signs. Even if Tesla is right crazy technique to prevent its main chargers against such people: Often, electric car drivers feel helpless in such cases. They are angry, but they cannot change anything.

Pay station blocked: illegal parkers should not be blocked

Or is it? In fact, opportunities to fight can be controlled. Of course, any kind of eye justice is prohibited, that is to destroy someone else’s car in the form of: “He will never do that again”. Parking in such a way that you can almost reach the charging socket but block another car on the other side is not legal – nor is running the charging cable across the body of the car in the way.

The only correct, albeit expensive, method is to remove the wrongly parked car. However, even with a restricted private parking space, it is not allowed to drive a tow truck. You have to leave it to the owner of the space – for example a supermarket if you want to charge in a row in your parking space. Whether he will be involved in the war against his wrongly parked customers is of course doubtful.

Payment terminal is blocked: It depends on the correct signal

At a toll booth on a public road, the appropriate person to contact will be the municipality or the police. However, a prerequisite for a successful complaint is that the parking space on the pole is correctly signed. A sign indicating a charging station is not enough for this: the parking area must be clearly authorized only for electric vehicles.

This includes all vehicles that have a license plate with an E at the end and a direct charging socket, i.e. plug-in hybrids as well as pure electric vehicles. A corresponding sign can show a car with a cable or say E on the license plate.

In theory, the road would then be free for a tow truck. However, by the time the relevant authority has activated it and arrived, the frustrated electric car driver has probably already arrived at another charging station (which is very few).
