Top 10 electric cars to buy in 2023

Electric car is becoming more popular by the day. More fun to watch EV sales every year. But which model is the most popular?

JATO Dynamics, a global automotive market research company, conducts an EV sales survey every year. Statistics for 2022 were published this weekalong with the top ten best selling electric cars.

This is the absolute market leader

Toyota was the largest manufacturer in 2022. This brand sells the most electric vehicles worldwide and is in the top ten best-selling EV models no less than five times. Toyota RAV-4 even takes first place.

Tesla is also well represented in the top ten. Elon Musk’s brand is the only one other than Toyota to have more than one electric car in the top 10: the Model Y and the Model 3. The only Ford in the top 10 is the F-150. Honda and Nissan also have a place in the ranking with the CR-V and Sentra.

How many electric cars are sold worldwide?

According to data from JATO Dynamics, which has official figures for 53 countries and estimates for another 90 countries, 79.4 million EVs were sold worldwide last year! That number includes trucks, light commercial vehicles and small cars. Now you must think that this is a big amount. But the number of sales has decreased compared to the previous year. In 2021, 80.7 million purchases were registered.

It is surprising that many markets for electric vehicles are growing. For example, in countries like India, the Middle East, Africa and South Asia. Their global share of the EV industry has increased to 24 percent. In comparison, North America, Europe and China account for 69 percent.

How is Tesla doing on the international stage?

Tesla experienced a 43 percent increase in sales. JATO predicts that this number will only increase in the coming year. Tesla has started to reduce the price of its electric cars.

Tesla is also introducing a Supercharger in North America. These public charging stations can also be used by electric vehicles that do not come from the car manufacturer itself.
