People may want to hurry if they’re looking to snag one of the amazing full-size pickup trucks on the market right now. Otherwise, the alternative is low-power or from the competition.

One of the most important American brands out there, Dodge, has decided to retire the Hemi V8 from its lineup – the L-bodied Challenger and Charger ceased production in December 2023, and the Durango is already receiving the first of the ‘Last Call. ‘ versions, too. Stellantis decided that Ram Trucks should follow suit, and now the upgraded 2025 model year 1500 series does not include a powertrain.

Instead, there’s a V6 with eTorque, a 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six with regular and advanced versions, an expanded Ramcharger lineup, as well as the all-electric Ram 1500 REV. As for the rock-crawling TRX, that’s also going away and is set to be replaced by the first-ever Ram 1500 RHO – a crazy campaign has already begun ahead of its official release later this year.

Fortunately, you can still opt for the 2024 Ram 1500 TRX if you can afford the increased MSRP of $96,590, of course. Once you’ve paid an arm and a leg for it, of course, you’re free to do whatever you want with it — including playing on the quarter-mile drag strip. But wait, there’s no need to take our word for it. Here, we have an eloquent example from the good people on race-focus ImportRace channel on YouTube, who have returned to their regular venue – Island Dragway – for some serious truck action.

The ‘hero’ in the video embedded below is a red Ram 1500 TRX that came out ‘regularly’ on Friday night at the track’s Test and Tune Day. To put everything into perspective, the first clash is against a super-rare E39 BMW 5 Series Touring station wagon – and the old vs. modern feud doesn’t end well for an outsider. Of course, BMW is coming to America with the new generation M5 Touring, and things will look different when it hits the quarter mile.

Until then, TRX nailed the win with an impressive 11.65s to 14.62s win. Second, the Mopar vs. Blue Oval battle got another battle or two in the form of the F-150 vs. TRX battle. The inaugural round went to the Ram – with a little stress because the F-Series was quick off the line, and the TRX had to regain lost distance. In the end, it prevailed by passing 11.77s against 12.86s.

However, the Ram TRX driver continued to struggle with reaction times, and the rematch saw the Ford F-150 driver manage his truck to a 0.87 lap (vs. 11.01) to claim the win though he finished with a 12.77. s ET against rival Mopar’s pass of 11.74s. Cool or not?
